Tools and the handmade are back in fashion. Not that we don’t all love computer generated imagery (like this site), but the joy of making an object, outside of the digital domain, has obvious rewards as well as dangers that connect us to the world and provide lasting objects of desire. Joshua Sharp is a tool guy, a biker, a maker of things, so it’s only natural that he is attracted to the objects of his trades. He is also a devoted carnivore, as demonstrated by the wonderful pig tattoo on his ribs. Pigs and ribs just seem to go together. You’ll also notice that these black and white images are from gelatin silver contact prints from a 4×5 negative, an antiquated process that requires patience, determination and skill and a process that requires even a bit of faith.
